Hans Genberg
Director, HKIMR
(also Executive Director (Research), HKMA)

Mr. Genberg, as the Director of the HKIMR, heads the Institute and is also responsible for the Institute's research programme.

Mr. Genberg obtained his PhD degree in Economics from the University of Chicago. He had been working as a Professor in Economics at the Graduate Institute of International Studies in Geneva, Switzerland since 1979. Prior to joining the HKMA and HKIMR in February 2005, he was the Head of the Economics Section of the Institute. He has also been a visiting scholar at the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. He has published widely on issues related to monetary and exchange rate policy in a number of journals, including the Journal of Monetary Economics and the Journal of International Economics. He has a keen research interest in monetary and financial developments in East Asia.

Dong He
Member of the HKIMR Board of Directors
(also Head, Economic Research Division, HKMA)

Mr. He is Head, Economic Research Division at the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA). His responsibilities include analyzing macroeconomic and financial market developments in Hong Kong, Mainland China and the Asia-Pacific region, and conducting research on policy issues relevant to the maintenance of monetary and financial stability in Hong Kong. Prior to joining the HKMA in August 2004, Mr. He was a staff member of the International Monetary Fund during 1998-2004 and a staff member of the World Bank during 1993-1998. Mr. He holds a doctorate in economics from the University of Cambridge, and has written extensively on macroeconomic and financial market issues relating to China and other emerging market economies..

Matthew S. Yiu
Senior Manager, HKIMR

Mr. Yiu, seconded from the HKMA, is responsible for the daily operations of the HKIMR and also undertakes applied research under the Institute's purview. Before joining the HKMA, he worked in GT Management (Asia), a mutual fund company in Hong Kong.

Mr. Yiu earned his doctoral degree from the University of Lancaster, UK. His recent research papers have appeared in the Journal of the Japanese and International Economies, Pacific Economic Review and International Journal of Finance and Economics.
